Text Sorter
Sort lines A→Z, Z→A, by length or randomly
What is Text Sorter?
Text Sorter is a free online text tool from Farvixo that lets you sort lines A→Z, Z→A, by length or randomly. It updates as you type and runs entirely in your browser, so the text is never transmitted. There is no length limit imposed by a server, no account and no cost — use it as often as you need.
How to use Text Sorter
Paste or type into Text Sorter. Nothing is sent anywhere — the text stays in your browser.
Pick the options you want. Text Sorter updates the output as you type, so you can see the effect immediately.
Take the result to your clipboard or save it as a file. Unlimited use, no account needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did my numbered list sort in the wrong order?
Alphabetical sorting treats numbers as text, so 10 comes before 2 — because "1" precedes "2" character by character. Use numeric sorting for lists of numbers, or pad them with leading zeros.
Is sorting case-sensitive?
By default uppercase sorts before lowercase, which is how character codes are ordered. Enable case-insensitive sorting for a list of names or words, which is almost always what you actually want.
Can I sort and remove duplicates at once?
Yes. De-duplication can be applied during the sort, which is the usual combination when tidying an exported list of emails, tags or keywords.
What is random sort for?
Shuffling a list — picking a running order, randomising questions, drawing names. It uses a proper random source rather than a weak shuffle, so the result is genuinely unbiased.
Does it handle non-English text?
Sorting uses locale-aware comparison, so accented characters and non-Latin scripts sort sensibly rather than by raw character code, which would place them all after Z.

Tips for better results
- Text pasted from Word or a PDF often carries invisible characters; clean it before counting or comparing.
- Character counts differ between platforms — some count emoji as one character, others as two.
- The result updates live, so you can adjust the input and watch the output rather than re-running the tool.
Common problems and how to fix them
The count does not match another tool
Tools differ on whether line breaks, trailing spaces and emoji count. Check which rule the platform you are targeting applies.
Formatting was lost on paste
This is a plain-text tool by design. Apply formatting after transforming the text in your editor.
Strange symbols appear in the output
The source contained smart quotes, non-breaking spaces or zero-width characters. Strip them first, then re-run.
