Text Compare
Compare two texts and highlight differences
What is Text Compare?
Text Compare is a free online text tool from Farvixo that lets you compare two texts and highlight differences. It updates as you type and runs entirely in your browser, so the text is never transmitted. There is no length limit imposed by a server, no account and no cost — use it as often as you need.
How to use Text Compare
Paste or type into Text Compare. Nothing is sent anywhere — the text stays in your browser.
Pick the options you want. Text Compare updates the output as you type, so you can see the effect immediately.
Take the result to your clipboard or save it as a file. Unlimited use, no account needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can I use this for?
Checking what changed between two drafts of a document, spotting an edit someone made to a contract, comparing two config files, or confirming a copied block is identical to the original. Anywhere "what exactly is different?" is the question.
Does it show word-level differences or just changed lines?
Both. Changed lines are marked, and within them the specific words that differ are highlighted — which is what you need when a paragraph changed by two words and reading the whole line again would not reveal it.
Why are two seemingly identical texts showing as different?
Invisible characters: trailing spaces, a tab where spaces are expected, different line endings between Windows and Unix, or a non-breaking space pasted from a web page. All are real differences even though nothing looks different.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The comparison runs in your browser, so it is safe to diff contracts, code and anything else confidential.
Can I compare code?
Yes. Whitespace is significant by default, which matters for indentation-sensitive languages, and can be ignored when you only care about substantive changes.

Tips for better results
- Text pasted from Word or a PDF often carries invisible characters; clean it before counting or comparing.
- Character counts differ between platforms — some count emoji as one character, others as two.
- The result updates live, so you can adjust the input and watch the output rather than re-running the tool.
Common problems and how to fix them
The count does not match another tool
Tools differ on whether line breaks, trailing spaces and emoji count. Check which rule the platform you are targeting applies.
Formatting was lost on paste
This is a plain-text tool by design. Apply formatting after transforming the text in your editor.
Strange symbols appear in the output
The source contained smart quotes, non-breaking spaces or zero-width characters. Strip them first, then re-run.
