Character Counter
Live character count with and without spaces
What is Character Counter?
Character Counter is a free online text tool from Farvixo that lets you live character count with and without spaces. It updates as you type and runs entirely in your browser, so the text is never transmitted. There is no length limit imposed by a server, no account and no cost — use it as often as you need.
How to use Character Counter
Paste or type into Character Counter. Nothing is sent anywhere — the text stays in your browser.
Pick the options you want. Character Counter updates the output as you type, so you can see the effect immediately.
Take the result to your clipboard or save it as a file. Unlimited use, no account needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which count do platforms actually use?
Almost always characters including spaces. Meta descriptions, tweets, SMS and most form limits count every character you can see. The without-spaces figure is mainly useful for typesetting and translation quotes.
Why does my count differ from another tool?
Line breaks and trailing spaces are counted by some tools and not others, and emoji are one character to some and two to others because they occupy two code units. Check against the platform you are actually targeting.
How are emoji and accented characters counted?
Emoji frequently count as two, and some flag and skin-tone emoji as four or more, because of how they are encoded. Accented letters usually count as one. This is the single most common reason a post rejected as too long looks short.
Is there a limit on how much text I can paste?
No. Counting runs in your browser rather than on a server, so there is no upload and no cap.
Does it count words and paragraphs too?
Yes — words, sentences and paragraphs alongside characters, plus an estimated reading time. All of them update live as you type.

Common problems and how to fix them
The count does not match another tool
Tools differ on whether line breaks, trailing spaces and emoji count. Check which rule the platform you are targeting applies.
Formatting was lost on paste
This is a plain-text tool by design. Apply formatting after transforming the text in your editor.
Strange symbols appear in the output
The source contained smart quotes, non-breaking spaces or zero-width characters. Strip them first, then re-run.
