Does a sitemap guarantee my pages get indexed?
No, and this is worth being clear about. A sitemap helps a search engine discover URLs. Whether each one is indexed is a separate judgement about whether the page is worth including. Discovery and indexing are different problems.
Do priority and changefreq matter?
Google has said it largely ignores both, because site owners set everything to priority 1.0 and changefreq daily. Lastmod is the field that does get used — provided it is accurate. A lastmod that updates on every build is noise.
How many URLs can one sitemap hold?
50,000 URLs or 50 MB uncompressed, whichever comes first. Beyond that, split into several sitemaps and list them in a sitemap index file.
Should I include every URL?
Only canonical, indexable ones. Listing redirects, noindex pages or duplicates sends contradictory signals — a sitemap is a statement about what matters, not an inventory.
