What is Watermark PDF?

Watermark PDF is a free browser-based PDF tool from Farvixo that lets you stamp text watermarks across a PDF — colour, angle, opacity, tiling and per-page control. It runs entirely on your own device using WebAssembly, so the document is never uploaded to a server. There is no sign-up, no watermark on the output and no cap on how many documents you process.

How to use Watermark PDF

1Drop in your PDF

Select or drag a PDF. It is opened in your browser — nothing is uploaded, which matters for the kind of document people usually mark CONFIDENTIAL.

2Set the mark

Type the text, pick a colour, size and angle, and choose an opacity. Turn on tiling to repeat it across the page instead of one mark in the middle.

3Choose pages and download

Leave the page field blank to mark every page, or enter something like "1, 3-5" to mark only some. Download the watermarked PDF.

Frequently Asked Questions

What opacity should I use?

Between 10% and 20% for a background mark — visible enough to be unmistakable, faint enough that the text underneath stays readable. Go higher only when the point is to obstruct rather than to label, such as marking a specimen document that must not be usable.

Should I tile the watermark or use one mark?

One centred mark is cleaner and is enough for internal labelling. Tiling covers the whole page and is much harder to crop out, so it is the better choice for anything you are worried about being screenshotted or trimmed.

Can the watermark be removed?

Yes — by anyone determined. It is drawn as text in the page content, so a PDF editor can delete it, and rasterising plus inpainting defeats even a flattened one. A watermark is a deterrent and a label, not a security control. If a document must not be altered, protect and flatten it as well.

Does it work on a scanned PDF?

Yes. The watermark is drawn on top of whatever the page contains, image or text, so scans mark the same way. It will not be searchable text over a scan, but neither is the scan.

Can I watermark only some pages?

Yes — enter the pages as "1, 3-5". Blank means every page. A common pattern is marking only the pages carrying pricing or personal data rather than the whole document.

Why can I not use Bengali or Hindi text?

The tool uses the standard PDF fonts, which cover Latin scripts only. Non-Latin characters have no glyphs there and would be dropped, so the tool asks for Latin text instead of silently producing a blank mark.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. It is opened, stamped and saved entirely in your browser. Documents worth watermarking are usually the ones you least want on someone else's server.

Can I add an image or logo watermark?

Not with this tool — it stamps text. To lay a logo or letterhead over every page, use PDF Overlay, which stamps a second PDF onto each page and takes an opacity setting.

Tips for better results

  • Check the page count and orientation in the preview before you download — reordering afterwards means starting over.
  • If a PDF refuses to open, it is usually password-protected; remove the password first, then re-run this tool.
  • Very large PDFs are limited by your device memory, not by an upload cap. Splitting a 500-page file into parts is faster than processing it whole.

Common problems and how to fix them

The PDF will not load

The file is encrypted or was produced by a non-standard writer. Open it in a PDF reader, print it back to PDF, and try again.

Text comes out garbled or as boxes

The PDF has no embedded font or no text layer at all. A scanned page needs OCR first — use PDF OCR, then re-run this tool.

The browser tab becomes unresponsive

The document is larger than the available memory. Close other tabs, or split the PDF and process it in sections.
