Frequently Asked Questions
Can I really edit the text in an existing PDF?
Yes, but understand what PDF is: a fixed layout that records where each character sits, not paragraphs that reflow. Short corrections — a date, a name, a figure — work cleanly. Rewriting a whole paragraph is usually easier by converting to Word, editing there and converting back.
Why can I not edit text in my PDF at all?
It is almost certainly a scan — a picture of a page with no text layer. Run PDF OCR on it first to create real text, then edit. If you cannot select the text in any reader, there is nothing there to edit.
Will my fonts change after editing?
If the PDF embeds its fonts, edited text matches the original. If it references a font your device does not have, a substitute is used and spacing can shift slightly. The preview shows exactly what you will get before you save.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. Editing happens entirely in your browser, which is why this is safe for contracts, invoices and anything else you would not hand to a third-party server.
Can I edit a PDF on a phone?
Yes — the editor is touch-friendly and works in a mobile browser. Precise text edits are genuinely easier on a larger screen, but annotating, highlighting and signing work well on a phone.

Common problems and how to fix them
The PDF will not load
The file is encrypted or was produced by a non-standard writer. Open it in a PDF reader, print it back to PDF, and try again.
Text comes out garbled or as boxes
The PDF has no embedded font or no text layer at all. A scanned page needs OCR first — use PDF OCR, then re-run this tool.
The browser tab becomes unresponsive
The document is larger than the available memory. Close other tabs, or split the PDF and process it in sections.
