How many pages should I put on a sheet?
Two stays comfortably readable for anything. Four is fine for slides and revision notes. Eight only works for material that is already large-print — ordinary body text at eight-up is genuinely hard to read.
Is this different from my printer's multiple-pages setting?
The result is similar, but this produces an actual PDF file. That matters when you want to share the compact version, when the printer is not yours, or when the print dialogue on a phone offers no such option.
Does it reduce quality?
No. Pages are scaled as vectors, so text stays sharp at any size. It is smaller, not blurrier — the limit is your eyes, not the file.
Can I control the page order and layout?
Yes. Choose how pages flow across the sheet — left-to-right by row, or down by column — which is what determines whether a printed handout reads naturally.
Does this work for making a booklet?
N-up puts several pages on a sheet in reading order. A booklet needs pages reordered for folding, which is a different arrangement — check your printer's booklet setting for that.

Common problems and how to fix them
The PDF will not load
The file is encrypted or was produced by a non-standard writer. Open it in a PDF reader, print it back to PDF, and try again.
Text comes out garbled or as boxes
The PDF has no embedded font or no text layer at all. A scanned page needs OCR first — use PDF OCR, then re-run this tool.
The browser tab becomes unresponsive
The document is larger than the available memory. Close other tabs, or split the PDF and process it in sections.
