Base64 Encoder & Decoder
Encode and decode Base64 text and files
What is Base64 Encoder & Decoder?
Base64 Encoder & Decoder is a free developer utility from Farvixo that lets you encode and decode Base64 text and files. Your input is processed locally in the browser — nothing is sent to a server, which matters when the payload is a token, a config file or production data. Free, unlimited, no sign-up.
How to use Base64 Encoder & Decoder
Paste your snippet into Base64 Encoder & Decoder. It stays on your device, which matters when you are handling tokens, config or production data.
Base64 Encoder & Decoder processes the input instantly and points at the exact line when something is malformed, so you can fix it rather than hunt for it.
Copy the result to your clipboard or download it. Free, unlimited and no sign-up.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Base64 a form of encryption?
No, and treating it as one is a genuine security mistake. Base64 is an encoding — anyone can decode it instantly with no key. It exists to let binary data travel through channels that expect text, not to protect anything.
Why is my Base64 output larger than the input?
Base64 represents every three bytes as four characters, so output is about 33% larger than the input. That overhead is the price of making binary data safe to put in text, and it is why data URIs bloat a page.
What is URL-safe Base64?
A variant that replaces the "+" and "/" characters with "-" and "_", because the standard characters have special meaning inside a URL. JWTs use this variant, which is why a JWT segment pasted into a standard decoder sometimes fails.
Why did my non-English text decode incorrectly?
An encoding mismatch. Base64 encodes bytes, not characters, so the result depends on how the text was turned into bytes first. Make sure the source is UTF-8 — this tool encodes and decodes as UTF-8 throughout.
Can I encode an image or a file?
Yes. Add the file and you get its Base64 representation, which is what a data URI uses to embed an image directly in HTML or CSS. Bear in mind the 33% size increase before embedding anything large.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. Encoding and decoding both run in your browser, so it is safe to work with tokens, config files and production payloads here.
What you can use Base64 Encoder & Decoder for
- Inspecting or reformatting an API payload while debugging
- Decoding a token or encoded value without pasting it into an unknown website
- Generating test data or identifiers during development
- Validating a config file before it is committed or deployed

- Purpose
- Encode and decode Base64 text and files
- Input
- Text or values you enter directly
- Output
- Processed output you can copy to the clipboard or download
- Processing
- In your browser — files are never uploaded to a server

- Limitations
- Bounded by your device's memory and CPU rather than a server quota
Tips for better results
- Because processing is local, it is safe to paste real credentials or production payloads here — nothing is transmitted or logged.
- When parsing fails, the reported line and column point at the first invalid token, which is usually just after the real mistake.
- Bookmark the tool page directly; it loads without an account and works offline once cached.
Common problems and how to fix them
Parsing fails on valid-looking input
Usually a trailing comma, a smart quote pasted from a document, or an unescaped backslash. Check the reported position first.
Output has unexpected whitespace or line endings
The source used CRLF line endings or a non-breaking space. Normalise the input before processing.
Non-English characters come out wrong
The input was not UTF-8. Re-save the source as UTF-8 and paste it again.
