## What is Video Trimmer?

Video Trimmer is a free browser-based video tool from Farvixo that lets you cut and trim video clips precisely. It uses an in-browser FFmpeg build compiled to WebAssembly, so even large clips are processed on your own machine and never uploaded. No account, no watermark and no per-file size limit imposed by a server.

## Specifications

| Property | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Tool | Video Trimmer — Video Tools |
| Purpose | Cut and trim video clips precisely |
| Input | A single file (MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, MKV) |
| Output | Video file in the selected container and codec |
| Processing | In your browser — files are never uploaded to a server |
| Price | Free, unlimited, no account required |
| Limitations | Bounded by your device's memory and CPU rather than a server quota; very large files may be slow on older hardware |

## How to use Video Trimmer

1. **Load your video** — Select a video file in Video Trimmer. Conversion happens in your browser using WebAssembly, so even large files never get uploaded anywhere.
2. **Pick format and quality** — Choose the output format, resolution and bitrate — or start from a ready-made preset if you are not sure what to pick.
3. **Convert and save** — Start the conversion and watch the progress bar; longer clips take a little time because the work runs on your own machine. Download when it finishes.

## Use cases

- Getting a clip under the size limit for WhatsApp, Gmail, Discord or a course upload
- Converting a recording to a format a specific player, editor or platform accepts
- Editors who want a quick change without opening a full desktop suite
- Handling confidential footage that must not be uploaded to an online converter

## Tips

- Processing speed depends on your own CPU, since the work is local. A laptop on battery-saver will be noticeably slower.
- H.264 (MP4) is the safest choice for compatibility; VP9 or AV1 give smaller files but decode slowly on older devices.
- Leave the tab open and visible — a backgrounded tab gets throttled by the browser and the encode will crawl.

## Common problems

- **The encode is very slow** — Everything runs on your device rather than a server farm. Pick a lower resolution or a faster preset, keep the tab in the foreground, and close other heavy tabs.
- **The output has no sound** — The chosen container cannot carry the source audio codec — WebM cannot hold AAC, for example. Re-encode the audio instead of copying the stream.
- **The browser ran out of memory** — The clip is too large to hold in memory. Trim it into shorter segments and process them one at a time.

## FAQ

### Does trimming re-encode the video?

Not if you trim on keyframes — the streams are copied, which is instant and completely lossless. Trimming to an arbitrary frame requires re-encoding the section around the cut, which takes longer and costs a little quality.

### Why is my cut a second off from where I set it?

Fast, copy-based trimming can only cut at keyframes, which occur every few seconds. Enable precise mode to cut exactly where you asked; it re-encodes, so it is slower.

### Is there a limit on file size or length?

No. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no server limit and no queue. The ceiling is your device memory and patience.

### Can I cut a section out of the middle?

Yes. Remove-selection mode cuts the middle out and joins the remaining start and end together.

### Which formats can I trim?

MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, MKV and most others, since FFmpeg handles the decoding. The output container matches the source unless you choose otherwise.
