## How to use YouTube Thumbnail Maker

1. **Add your content** — Paste the link or text you want to work with into YouTube Thumbnail Maker.
2. **Pick the platform** — Choose where it is going — YouTube Thumbnail Maker applies the right dimensions and limits for each network so nothing gets cropped or truncated.
3. **Download or copy** — Save the result ready to post. Free and unlimited, with no branding added.

## Use cases

- Producing a thumbnail or banner at the exact size a platform expects
- Creators keeping a consistent look across several networks
- Small businesses running social accounts without a design tool
- Fitting copy inside a character limit before it is cut off

## Tips

- Check the result at phone size — most people will see it on a small screen, not a desktop.
- Keep important text away from the edges; platforms crop previews differently in feed and full view.
- Platform dimensions change. Re-check anything you produced more than a few months ago.

## Common problems

- **The image was cropped after upload** — The aspect ratio does not match what that placement uses. Pick the preset for the exact placement, not the generic platform size.
- **The caption was truncated** — The preview limit is shorter than the posting limit. Put the essential line first.
- **Colours look different once posted** — Platforms re-compress uploads. Avoid heavy gradients and very fine detail, which suffer most.

## FAQ

### What size should a YouTube thumbnail be?

1280×720 pixels at 16:9, under 2 MB. YouTube requires a minimum width of 640, but uploading at 1280 keeps it sharp on televisions and full-screen players where a smaller image visibly softens.

### How much text should a thumbnail carry?

Three to five words at most, very large. Most viewers see the thumbnail at the size of a postage stamp on a phone — text that reads comfortably on your monitor disappears entirely there. Shrink it to check.

### What makes a thumbnail get clicked?

Contrast and a face, mostly. High contrast survives being shrunk; faces with clear expressions attract attention. Avoid clutter — a busy thumbnail becomes grey mush at small sizes.

### Is my design uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser and there is no watermark on the export.

### Does the thumbnail need to match the video?

Yes, and it is a policy matter as well as good practice. A misleading thumbnail drives clicks that leave immediately, which damages the retention signals YouTube actually rewards.
