## What is Encryption Tool?

Encryption Tool is a free security utility from Farvixo that lets you AES-256 encrypt and decrypt text with a passphrase. The value is processed locally in your browser and nothing is transmitted, stored or logged — which is the only acceptable design for a tool handling sensitive input. Free and unlimited.

## Specifications

| Property | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Tool | Encryption Tool — Security Tools |
| Purpose | AES-256 encrypt and decrypt text with a passphrase |
| Input | Text or values you enter directly |
| Output | A hash, checksum or analysis result you can copy |
| Processing | In your browser — files are never uploaded to a server |
| Price | Free, unlimited, no account required |
| Limitations | Bounded by your device's memory and CPU rather than a server quota |

## How to use Encryption Tool

1. **Enter what you want to check** — Enter the value you want to check or generate in Encryption Tool.
2. **Run the check** — Encryption Tool performs the analysis and explains the result in plain language rather than only showing a raw score.
3. **Review and use the result** — Copy or download what you need. Nothing is logged or retained afterwards.

## Use cases

- Verifying a download matches the checksum the publisher listed
- Generating a hash while developing or testing an integration
- Checking the strength of a password or the validity of a certificate
- Security work that must not involve sending the value to a third party

## Tips

- Compare checksums character by character, or paste both into a comparison tool. Eyeballing the first and last few is how tampering gets missed.
- MD5 and SHA-1 are fine for detecting accidental corruption but are broken for security. Use SHA-256 where integrity matters.
- Nothing you enter here is transmitted, so it is safe to check real values rather than dummy ones.

## Common problems

- **The hash does not match the published one** — Confirm the algorithm matches (SHA-256 against SHA-256), then re-download — a truncated download changes the hash.
- **Hashing a large file is slow** — The whole file is read on your device. Large archives take time; leave the tab focused until it finishes.
- **The same input gives a different result elsewhere** — Usually a trailing newline or different text encoding. Hash the exact bytes, not a copy-pasted representation.

## FAQ

### How strong is this?

AES-256 has no practical attack against it. The real strength is your passphrase — AES-256 with a four-character passphrase offers no meaningful protection, because the passphrase is what an attacker targets, not the cipher.

### What happens if I forget the passphrase?

The text is permanently unrecoverable, by us or by anyone. There is no reset and no back door — that is what encryption means. Store the passphrase before you close the tab.

### Is anything sent to a server?

No. Both the text and the passphrase stay in your browser. A tool that encrypted server-side would have seen your plaintext and your key together, which defeats the entire purpose.

### How should I send the encrypted text and passphrase?

Never through the same channel. Sending both in one email means anyone reading that email has everything. Send the ciphertext one way and the passphrase another — a phone call, a different app.

### What makes a good passphrase?

Length above all — four or five random words beat a short string of symbols. Do not reuse a passphrase you use anywhere else, since there is no recovery if it is compromised or forgotten.
