## What is Text to Speech?

Text to Speech converts written text into spoken audio using a synthetic voice. Farvixo offers two kinds of voice: a device voice that runs entirely in your browser or operating system so nothing is uploaded, and a neural voice that sends your text securely to a speech provider and returns a downloadable WAV file. You can choose a language, preview a voice before committing, adjust speed and pitch where the voice supports them, and break a long script into segments with a different voice per language.

## How to use Text to Speech

1. **Enter or paste your text** — Type, paste or import your script into the editor. The character count, word count and an estimated reading time update as you go.
2. **Choose a language and voice** — Pick your language — English, Bengali (বাংলা) or Hindi (हिन्दी) among others — then choose a voice and preview it before committing. Adjust speed and pitch where the voice supports them.
3. **Generate and export** — Listen to the result, refine it, then download the audio. Device voices play through your speakers only; neural voices produce a WAV file you can save and use.

## Use cases

- Proofreading your own writing — hearing it read aloud exposes clumsy sentences the eye skips over
- Accessibility: turning articles, notes and documents into audio you can listen to
- Voiceovers and narration for videos, presentations and product demos
- Producing Bengali or Hindi audio when your own accent or fluency is not a match for the script
- Language learning by hearing correct pronunciation of English, Bengali or Hindi text
- Listening to long documents while commuting or doing something else

## Tips

- Punctuation controls pacing more than any setting. Commas and full stops are what make speech sound human; a long unpunctuated sentence is read as a breathless run-on.
- Match the voice to the language of your text. An English voice reading Bengali script produces nonsense rather than accented Bengali.
- If your text mixes scripts — an English brand name inside a Bengali sentence — the tool warns you. Split it into segments and give each language its own voice for the best result.
- Device voices are private and usually offline but cannot be downloaded. Neural voices sound better and export to WAV, but send your text to the provider to do it.
- Use the pronunciation dictionary for names and technical terms. Spelling "Farvixo" as "far-VIK-so" fixes it everywhere at once rather than in each sentence.

## Common problems

- **No voices appear in the list** — Your browser has not reported any installed voices. Chrome, Edge and Safari on a desktop usually have several; some Linux setups and hardened privacy browsers have none. Switch to a neural voice, which does not depend on what your system has installed.
- **Nothing plays when I press Generate** — Browsers block audio until you have interacted with the page. Click anywhere on it first, then try again. If you are on a device voice, also check the system volume and that another app is not holding the audio output.
- **The download button is missing** — You have a device voice selected. Browsers do not expose system speech synthesis for recording, so there is no file to save rather than a button that quietly fails. Switch to a neural voice to export audio.
- **The speech sounds wrong in places** — Check that the voice language matches your text, then add the problem words to the pronunciation dictionary. Abbreviations that should be spoken as words — "Dr" as "Doctor" — are the usual cause.

## FAQ

### Is my text uploaded to a server?

It depends which voice you pick, and the tool tells you which is active. A device voice runs entirely in your browser or operating system, so nothing leaves your computer. A neural voice sends your text securely to the speech provider to generate the audio — the page states this before you generate, and no "no upload" claim is shown while a cloud voice is selected.

### Which languages are supported?

English, Bengali (বাংলা) and Hindi (हिन्दी) are the three the tool is tested against most carefully, alongside Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Urdu, Arabic, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese among others. Device voices depend on what your operating system has installed, so the voice list shows exactly what is available to you rather than a fixed promise.

### Can I download the generated voice?

With a neural voice, yes — you get a standard WAV file with no watermark and no spoken attribution. Device voices cannot be downloaded, because browsers do not expose system speech synthesis for recording. Rather than show a download button that fails, the tool hides export entirely for those voices and says why.

### Does Bengali and Hindi actually work?

Yes, and the voices are tested with Bengali and Devanagari script, including the danda punctuation that Indic scripts use. Two things worth knowing: pick a voice that matches your text, because an English voice reading Bengali produces nonsense; and if your text mixes scripts — an English term inside a Bengali sentence, for example — the tool warns you and suggests splitting it into per-language segments.

### Can I change the speed and pitch?

Device voices support both, from 0.5× to 2× speed and a pitch range either side of neutral. Neural voices set their own delivery and expose neither, so those controls are hidden rather than shown doing nothing. Presets like Narration, Podcast and Proofread adjust whatever the selected voice actually supports.

### Can I generate long articles or a whole document?

Yes. Text is split at paragraph and sentence boundaries — never mid-word and never inside a Bengali cluster or an emoji — synthesised in pieces, and joined back into one file with a short fade at each seam so there are no clicks. You can also see the segment progress and cancel partway without losing your text.

### Can I use different voices in one script?

Yes, with segments. Split your script into parts, give each one its own language and voice, and generate them together. That is the practical way to handle bilingual dialogue, or a narrator and a character in different languages.

### Can I use the generated audio commercially?

Rights depend on the voice you selected and its provider's terms, so the tool does not promise blanket commercial use. Check the terms for the specific voice before using it in a commercial project.

### Does it work offline?

Device voices often do, since they use voices installed on your machine — though some browsers still need a connection for certain engines. Neural voices require an internet connection by definition. The tool does not claim offline support it cannot verify.
